The Gauley River (Koontz Bend) can be heard (SW) and is probably ca. 300 m away. An old jeep trail is 50 m to the E. To the N is a PiVi forest about 30 m.;An Eastern Hemlock/ Rhododendron area of forest. 100 m away is GARI.59 which was mostly Tsuga canadensis, with few forbs. Here there is a great amount of Rhododendron in the understory, also large formation of sandstone, and a seep that flows over a large sandstone rock. Very shady and cool. Very little ground cover/ no forbs. Seep drops down large sandstone rockface.
Representativeness
TsCa/RhMa mesic mixed evergreen/deciduous forest, placed to sample ELU 1133. (Similar to GARI.50 near the Summersville Dam) but our plot may still be in ELU 1130.
